Restaurants with a skyline view in
Mexico City

Where can you eat or drink with the best view of Mexico City? These three, all on Paseo de la Reforma and all looking at the Angel, every one of them visited and filmed on my own visit.

The three

All three sit on Paseo de la Reforma within a few minutes of the Angel of Independence. Only one of them is a rooftop; the other two are high floors.

Cityzen Rooftop Bar (Sofitel Reforma)

Reforma◆Rooftop◆International◆$$$

Thirty-eight floors up in the Sofitel at Paseo de la Reforma 297, with the Angel of Independence directly below and Chapultepec Castle on the horizon. Serious cocktails, a serious wine list and the best sunset in the city.

Arrive an hour before sunset for a west-facing table. By sunset itself they are all taken.

Salazar

Reforma◆Fine dining◆Mexican◆$$$

Edo Kobayashi's eighth-floor wooden bistro and terrace at Reforma 333, looking straight at the Angel. Chef Ricardo Galván cooks over wood and charcoal: warm brioche, baby corn with jocoque, a whole Veracruz red snapper, tres leches.

Ask for a view table when you book, and take the lift from the office building lobby.

Cipriani (Ritz-Carlton)

For the classic view

Cipriani (Ritz-Carlton)

Reforma◆Fine dining◆Italian◆$$$$

Inside the Ritz-Carlton at Reforma 509, high above the Chapultepec end of the avenue, with classic Italian cooking and white-tablecloth service. The view for a celebration rather than a casual drink.

The bar stays open until two, so dinner can roll into a nightcap with the city lit up.

How I picked

Why three, and not forty

Plenty of places in Mexico City have a terrace. Very few have a view worth the trip. These three are the ones I visited and filmed that actually deliver the skyline, all on Paseo de la Reforma.

I did not call this a rooftop guide on purpose: only Cityzen is a rooftop. Salazar is an eighth-floor terrace and Cipriani is a high floor inside a hotel, and saying otherwise would be wrong.

Questions

Before you go out

Which restaurant in Mexico City has the best view?+

Cityzen Rooftop, on the 38th floor of the Sofitel at Paseo de la Reforma 297. The Angel of Independence is directly below and Chapultepec Castle is on the horizon. It is a bar first, so eat at Salazar or Cipriani if dinner matters more than the drink.

Where can I watch the sunset in Mexico City?+

Cityzen Rooftop has the best sunset in the city. Arrive an hour early for a west-facing table, because by sunset they are taken.

Is Salazar a rooftop?+

No, it is an eighth-floor wooden bistro with a terrace, facing the Angel at Reforma 333. The view is level with the monument rather than above it, which many people prefer.

Which view restaurant is best for a special occasion?+

Cipriani, inside the Ritz-Carlton at Reforma 509, with classic Italian cooking and polished white-tablecloth service. About 1,000 to 1,500 pesos a person before drinks.

Can I combine two of these in one evening?+

Yes. All three are on Reforma within a few minutes of each other. Drinks at Cityzen for the sunset, then dinner at Salazar facing the Angel, is the best evening on this list.

Do I need reservations?+

For all three on a weekend, yes. Ask for a view table specifically at Salazar and a west-facing table at Cityzen, because the view is the reason you are there.
