What Somma Rooftop is
Somma Rooftop is a wine bar on the roof of the Casona Roma Norte, a pink Porfirian-era mansion at the corner of Durango and Cozumel in Roma Norte, Mexico City. The entrance is at Cozumel 48. It opened in the spring of 2026 and is the third venue from the Somma group, which started with a small wine bar on Río Lerma known for its wine window, where you ring a bell to get a glass handed through, and added a restaurant in Polanco.
The rooftop is the largest and most social of the three. Press at the launch described it as a “social club” for wine: a big terrace, a modern bar in wood and plants, a DJ booth, a cabinet-of-curiosities look with vintage radios and vinyl records on the walls, and a small speakeasy room at the back. The format is wine by the glass, plates to share and music that gets louder as the evening goes on.
The name is a compound. Somma takes soma, the happiness drug from Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, and folds it into sommelier. The group says the idea is pleasure without protocol.
Who is behind it
Three people are named in the launch coverage from April 2026. Erik “Cometa” Gómez runs operations. Kike Barrios handles music curation and the night programme. Pablo Mata is the sommelier and built the list, which the group describes as about 110 well-chosen labels, from familiar names to less obvious regions, meant to be enjoyed rather than analysed. The group opened its first Somma on Río Lerma in late 2023 and the Polanco restaurant after that.
How the menu works
Somma Rooftop is a bar first. You can eat a full dinner there, but the menu is written so that everything goes with a glass.
- Wine: a list of around 110 labels, with a large by-the-glass selection covering red, white, rosé and sparkling. Tasting several glasses is the intended way to use it.
- Cocktails and spirits: a short list, described in the press as fruity, fresh and sweet.
- Starters to share: house olives, hummus, ham croquettes, beef tartare, house-made chips, cheese boards, tuna toast, sashimi, burrata with pesto and salads.
- Mains: pizzas, pastas including a truffle pasta, burgers, a rib eye sandwich, grilled salmon, and tacos al pastor and shrimp tacos.
- Dessert: a Ferrero cake.
The influences are Mexican, Spanish, Italian and French, in that order of how often they appear on the plate.
What I ate
When I filmed in July the table was the shared starters: mussels, hummus and olives, followed by the comfort-food side of the menu, tacos, pasta and pizza. The drinks were wine by the glass, which is where the list is strongest.
What it costs
Somma Rooftop does not publish a priced menu online. The figures below come from booking platforms and the group’s other venues.
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Average spend per person, wine and shared plates | 700 to 800 MXN, about 37 to 42 USD |
| Per person at the original Somma on Río Lerma, reported 2024 | About 450 MXN, about 24 USD |
| Wine | By the glass and by the bottle, charged separately from food |
The rooftop costs more than the Río Lerma original because the terrace is bigger and the evening runs on DJs and bottles. Prices move, so ask for the current list when you sit down.
How to book
Reservations are recommended and the platforms note limited capacity.
- WhatsApp: +52 55 2303 5417, with instant confirmation.
- Instagram: @somma_rooftop.
- Online: CoverManager, listed as Somma Rooftop, and OpenTable, listed as Somma Rooftop Restaurant.
Hours published in the April 2026 press are 13:30 to 22:30 Tuesday to Sunday, extended to 2:00 in the morning Wednesday to Saturday. Some booking sites list different opening times, so confirm the day you plan to go. Minors are not admitted.
Getting there
- Address: Cozumel 48, Roma Norte, 06700 Cuauhtémoc, Ciudad de México.
- Landmark: the Casona Roma Norte, a Small Luxury Hotels property, is the pink mansion at the corner of Durango and Cozumel. The rooftop entrance is on Cozumel.
- Metro: Sevilla on Line 1 is about a ten-minute walk north. Insurgentes is a similar distance.
- From Plaza Río de Janeiro: about six minutes on foot west along Durango.
- Parking: none on site. Ride-hailing is the practical option, and street parking on Cozumel is scarce at night.
Before you go
- Adults only. Booking platforms state the venue is not suitable for minors.
- Go for the wine, not the view. The terrace is enclosed by wood and greenery and does not look over the city.
- Timing. Afternoons are quiet and good for talking. From Thursday the DJ sets start in the evening and the terrace gets loud and full.
- Smoking. There is a designated smoking area on the terrace.
- Cards accepted. Credit and debit cards work; you do not need cash.
- Pair it with a Roma Norte dinner. Ritmo Café on Medellín runs the same DJ-and-drinks idea from the morning side, and URSO on Avenida Oaxaca is a ten-minute walk for a longer sit-down meal.
- Check the hours before you go. The hours on this page come from the venue’s public listings, which drift, so confirm on Google Maps or the venue’s own channels before a special trip.

Frequently asked questions
Where is Somma Rooftop?+
Somma Rooftop is at Cozumel 48, Roma Norte, 06700 Cuauhtémoc, Mexico City, on the top floor of the Casona Roma Norte hotel. The hotel is the guava-pink Porfirian mansion on the corner of Durango and Cozumel. The rooftop has its own entrance on the Cozumel side; if you end up at the hotel reception, ask for the terrace.
What are Somma Rooftop's hours?+
Somma Rooftop opens at 13:30 Tuesday to Sunday. It closes at 22:30 on Tuesday and Sunday and around 2:00 in the morning Wednesday to Saturday. Listings vary by a half hour or so, and hours for a venue this new change often, so check @somma_rooftop before a late visit.
Do I need a reservation at Somma Rooftop?+
Booking is recommended, especially Thursday to Saturday nights when the DJs play and the terrace fills. Somma Rooftop takes reservations by WhatsApp at +52 55 2303 5417, through Instagram at @somma_rooftop, and via CoverManager and OpenTable. Walk-ins are possible on weekday afternoons.
How much does a night at Somma Rooftop cost?+
Booking sites quote an average spend of 700 to 800 MXN per person, about 37 to 42 USD, for a couple of glasses of wine and shared plates. The team behind Somma prices wine to be drunk rather than studied, and the original Río Lerma bar was reported at around 450 MXN per person. Bottles and cocktails push the bill up.
Who is behind Somma Rooftop?+
Somma Rooftop is the third venue of the Somma group, after the Río Lerma wine bar with the bell-ring wine window and the Polanco restaurant. The team named in the April 2026 launch press is Erik Gómez on operations, Kike Barrios on music and the night programme, and sommelier Pablo Mata, who built a list of about 110 labels.
Why is it called Somma?+
The name combines two ideas. The first is soma, the happiness drug in Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, and the second is sommelier. The group uses the name across all three venues and describes its philosophy as wine without protocol.
What food does Somma Rooftop serve?+
Somma Rooftop serves share plates and comfort food rather than a full restaurant menu. Starters include olives, hummus, ham croquettes, beef tartare, tuna toast, sashimi, burrata with pesto and mussels. Mains run to pizzas, pastas including a truffle pasta, burgers, a rib eye sandwich, grilled salmon and tacos.
Does Somma Rooftop have a view?+
Not a skyline one. The terrace sits on top of a three-storey mansion and is framed by wood, plants and a modern bar, with vintage radios and vinyl on the walls. When I filmed, the design did the job of hiding the lack of a view, so go for the wine and the sound rather than a panorama.
