What Ritmo Café is
Ritmo Café is a café, restaurant and listening bar at Calle Medellín 78 in Roma Norte, Mexico City. Its own description is a place “where gastronomy, mixology and music blend into a single experience”, inspired by listening bars and DJ culture, with a music programme that changes from morning to night. The Instagram bio puts it more simply: culture brewed and played daily.
In practice that means a coffee and breakfast spot with a DJ booth that is already in use while people eat pancakes, a garden dining room, and a bar that stays open past midnight on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It is a recent opening, and by mid 2026 it had become one of the busiest weekend brunch queues in the neighbourhood.
The room mixes raw concrete with plants. A long shared table sits among the greenery on a stone floor, with leather chairs around it, and there are smaller tables inside and on an open upper level that lets in the light. When I filmed, the building work looked new and the crowd was young and dressed for a day out rather than a quick coffee.
Who is behind it
The café publishes very little about its founders. The Instagram account, @ritmocafe.mx, runs a weekly DJ lineup, a “Radio Ritmo” strand and paid workshops, for example a bartending technique class advertised at 990 MXN, about 52 USD. The reservation site describes the kitchen as traditional cooking with modern touches at accessible prices. I could not confirm the names of the owners or the head chef from public sources, so treat it as a music-first hospitality project rather than a chef’s restaurant.
How the menu works
The day is split in two.
- Brunch, from opening until 14:30: breakfast plates such as pancakes, eggs, chilaquiles and molletes, with single-origin coffee, juices and agua fresca. This is when the queue forms.
- Afternoon and evening: a shorter list of starters made to share, comfort food mains, and a cocktail and mocktail list. Thursday to Saturday this runs late with DJ sets.
The pancakes are the signature. They are the dish that went viral on TikTok, served as a thick stack with a crisp outer layer, fruit on top and syrup poured over. Reviewers regularly say they are the reason to put up with the wait. Eggs in various styles, including a version they call huevos Popeye with spinach, get consistent mentions as well.
For the afternoon list, the starters are the part worth planning around: raw fish options, croquetas de jamón (ham croquettes) and a plain tomato and mozzarella salad. Mains are pizzas, pastas and burgers.
What I ate
I went on a weekend morning in July and moved into the afternoon menu. On the table were the shared starters, the croquetas de jamón and the tomato and mozzarella salad, followed by the comfort-food mains. My one warning from that visit is about time: the kitchen took a long time to bring food, and the wait to get in was over an hour for people arriving mid-morning on Sunday. Order the starters first so something arrives quickly.
What it costs
Ritmo Café does not publish a menu with prices online, and neither OpenTable nor the reservation site lists dish prices. What the sources do agree on is the range.
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Breakfast plate, coffee and a juice, per person | Mid range for Roma Norte, reviewers call it a little pricey |
| Bartending workshop, advertised on Instagram | 990 MXN, about 52 USD |
| Cocktails and mocktails | Charged separately, evening list |
Apple Maps places it in its top price band, which reflects the cocktail evening more than a coffee and eggs. For a realistic plan, budget as you would for any of the popular Roma Norte brunch rooms and add drinks if you stay past 14:30. Prices move, so ask for the current menu when you sit down.
How to book
Ritmo Café takes reservations, which is the main way to avoid the weekend queue.
- Online: reserva.ritmocafe.mx, which runs on the CoverManager system and is linked from the Instagram profile.
- OpenTable: search for Ritmo Café, Ciudad de México.
- Phone: +52 55 7194 7277.
Walk-ins are accepted and the staff hand out agua de jamaica to the line, but on Saturdays and Sundays visitors report waits from thirty minutes at 11:00 to an hour for a group of six arriving at 9:30. Weekday mornings are much calmer.
Getting there
- Address: Calle Medellín 78, Roma Norte, 06700 Cuauhtémoc, Ciudad de México.
- Metro: Insurgentes or Sevilla on Line 1, each about a ten-minute walk. The Metrobús stops on Avenida Insurgentes are a similar distance.
- From Plaza Río de Janeiro: about eight minutes on foot heading west along Durango and then south on Medellín.
- Parking: street parking on Medellín is scarce at weekends. Ride-hailing is the practical option.
Before you go
- Arrive at opening on weekends. The queue builds fast after 10:00 and the kitchen slows down when the room is full.
- Bring a dog if you have one. The café is pet friendly and staff bring water bowls without being asked.
- Breakfast ends at 14:30. If you want the pancakes, come before then. After that the menu is starters, pizzas and burgers.
- Expect volume. The DJ starts in the morning, and by afternoon the sound is closer to a bar than a café. It is not a laptop spot.
- Thursday to Saturday nights are a different venue. Cocktails, a full DJ lineup and closing after midnight.
- Pair it with a wine bar nearby. Somma Rooftop on Cozumel is a ten-minute walk and picks up the same DJ-and-drinks idea for the evening.
- Check the hours before you go. The hours on this page come from the venue’s public listings, which drift, so confirm on Google Maps or the venue’s own channels before a special trip.
