What Notto by Guiño is

Notto by Guiño is a small coffee bar and bakery counter on Calle Oaxaca in Brisas de Zicatela, the grid of sand and concrete streets at the southern end of Zicatela beach that everyone in Puerto Escondido calls La Punta. It belongs to the Notto Zicatela hotel and is run by Guiño Café, the specialty coffee name that started on Avenida del Morro further up the beach.

The two businesses describe the arrangement plainly on their own channels: the warmth of Guiño Café in a refuge to pause and reconnect, conceived by Notto Zicatela. In practice that means the coffee programme belongs to the roasters and the room belongs to the hotel. The space is minimalist, with a few tables inside and a lounge area outside, and it is open to anyone off the street rather than to hotel guests only.

What makes it unusual in this neighbourhood is not the coffee. La Punta has plenty of good coffee. It is that the room is enclosed and air conditioned, the Wi-Fi is quick, and laptops are welcome. Most of La Punta is open palapas, fans, sand and a signal shared with a surf hostel next door. Notto is the indoor version.

Who is behind it

Guiño Café is a local operation run by a barista known as Guiño. The original site sits above the road on Avenida del Morro in Playa Zicatela, reached through a gate between the shops, with a handful of seats looking over the beach, plugs at the best tables, single-origin pour-overs, cold brew and a short list of sandwiches. Listings put it at 07:30 to 16:00 daily. It has a long-standing reputation among people who take their coffee seriously on this coast.

Notto Zicatela is the other half. It is a small design hotel at Calle Oaxaca s/n, Brisas de Zicatela 70934, a five-star boutique property with a pool, terraces and ocean views, reached at +52 954 448 7561 or through notto.mx. The hotel has said a restaurant called Crudo is due to open in 2026, which suggests the food side of the address will grow. For now the cafe is the part of the building a non-guest walks into.

How the menu works

The format is a counter, not a kitchen with table service. Coffee is the point: espresso drinks, single-origin filter and pour-over, and cold brew and iced drinks, which is what most people order once the temperature climbs. Alongside it there is a bakery and pastry counter, so a coffee with something sweet is the normal order rather than a full breakfast plate.

  • Coffee: espresso based and filter, from the Guiño Café programme.
  • Cold options: cold brew and iced drinks, the default for most of the day here.
  • Food: a bakery counter rather than a menu of cooked breakfasts.
  • Format: order at the counter, sit inside in the cool or outside in the lounge area.

No menu or price board is published online for this location, so treat the ordering as something you read on arrival.

What I found when I filmed

I went for the working conditions rather than for a tasting. Four things held up in July 2026: the coffee was good, the Wi-Fi was fast, the air conditioning was real, and nobody gave me a look for opening a laptop. In La Punta that combination is the whole review. If you need to get half a day of work done between swims, this is the address I would save.

What it costs

Notto by Guiño does not publish prices, so this is what I can say honestly rather than a figure invented to fill a table.

ItemPrice
Coffee menuNot published online, read the counter
Coffee and something from the bakeryComfortably under 300 MXN per person, about 15 USD
Sitting with a laptopNo cover charge or minimum posted

That puts it in the cheap band for Puerto Escondido, at or near what the independent cafes on Alejandro Cárdenas Peralta charge, rather than at hotel-restaurant prices. A day pass at one of the town’s coworking spaces runs around 250 MXN, which is a useful comparison: a morning at Notto with two coffees costs less and comes with better coffee. Prices move, so confirm at the counter.

Working from here, and do you need to book

There is no reservation system. It is a walk-in cafe with a small number of seats, and the good ones go early. Three practical notes:

  • Wi-Fi: fast when I filmed. La Punta as a neighbourhood has fibre now, but quality varies street by street, and this was one of the good ones.
  • Air conditioning: present, which is the single strongest argument for coming here instead of somewhere with a sea view.
  • Laptop policy: relaxed. No posted time limit and no side-eye.

The one thing to plan around is closing time. Cafes in Puerto Escondido shut early, most of them between 14:00 and 16:00, and Notto publishes no hours at all. Start in the morning and treat the afternoon as a bonus.

Getting there

  • Address: Calle Oaxaca, Brisas de Zicatela 70934, Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, at the Notto Zicatela hotel.
  • Neighbourhood: La Punta Zicatela. Almost everything in La Punta is within a ten-minute walk, including the surf break and the beach access at the end of the main street.
  • From the centre of Puerto Escondido: 15 to 20 minutes by taxi, mototaxi or colectivo along the coastal road.
  • From Puerto Escondido airport (PXM): about 20 to 25 minutes by car.
  • Navigation: maps list it both as Notto Café By Guiño and under the hotel name, Notto Zicatela. If you search only for Guiño you may be routed to the original cafe on Avenida del Morro, which is a different beach.

Before you go

  • Check Instagram first. @nottobyguino posts more reliably than any listing site, and the cafe has no published hours.
  • Come in the morning. This is a breakfast-to-early-afternoon neighbourhood, and the seats with plugs go first.
  • Carry cash. Card terminals across La Punta drop out when the signal or the power does, whatever the posted policy says.
  • Do not confuse the two Guiños. The Zicatela original has the ocean view, this one has the air conditioning.
  • Pair it with the rest of the street. Monte Alpán Bakery is the sourdough counter a few minutes away, and Ala Burger on the main street is where the same laptop crowd ends up for dinner.
  • Check the hours before you go. The hours on this page come from the venue’s public listings, which drift, so confirm on Google Maps or the venue’s own channels before a special trip.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Notto by Guiño in Puerto Escondido?+

Notto by Guiño is on Calle Oaxaca in Brisas de Zicatela 70934, the neighbourhood at the southern end of Zicatela beach that everybody calls La Punta. It is the cafe of the Notto Zicatela hotel, so maps may list it under either name. Everything in La Punta is within a ten-minute walk, and it is about 15 to 20 minutes by taxi from the centre of Puerto Escondido.

Can you work on a laptop at Notto by Guiño?+

Yes, and that is the reason to go. When I filmed in July 2026 the Wi-Fi was fast, the room was air conditioned, and nobody minded a laptop on the table. That combination is rare in La Punta, where most cafes are open palapas with a fan and a shared signal.

Is Notto by Guiño open to people who are not staying at the hotel?+

Yes. Notto by Guiño is a public cafe even though it belongs to the Notto Zicatela hotel. You walk in from the street like any other coffee shop in La Punta, with no room key and no minimum spend to sit down.

What are the opening hours of Notto by Guiño?+

The cafe does not publish its hours. For reference, the original Guiño Café on Avenida del Morro in Playa Zicatela is listed as open daily from 07:30 to 16:00, and most cafes in Puerto Escondido close somewhere between 14:00 and 16:00. Check the @nottobyguino Instagram page before making a long trip, and do not plan an evening work session.

What is the difference between Notto by Guiño and Guiño Café?+

Guiño Café is the original, a small coffee bar on Avenida del Morro in Playa Zicatela with ocean-view seating and a short sandwich menu. Notto by Guiño is the second location, made with the Notto Zicatela hotel in La Punta. Same coffee people, different room: indoors, air conditioned and built to sit in rather than to look at the surf.

How much does coffee at Notto by Guiño cost?+

Notto by Guiño does not publish a price list, so I am not going to quote a figure I did not read off a menu board. A coffee and something to eat sat in the normal La Punta specialty range when I filmed, well under 300 MXN per person, which is roughly 15 US dollars. Confirm at the counter.

Does Notto by Guiño have air conditioning?+

Yes. Air conditioning is the detail that sets Notto by Guiño apart from the rest of La Punta, where open-sided palapas and ceiling fans are the norm. Between May and September on the Oaxaca coast, a cooled room is the difference between two hours of work and twenty minutes.

Do I need a reservation at Notto by Guiño?+

No. Notto by Guiño is a walk-in cafe with a handful of tables inside and a few outside, and there is no booking system. The seats with the best light and the easiest plug access go first, so arrive in the morning if you are planning to stay a while.
