The six

Two of the six are in the Michelin Guide and a third sits inside a Michelin Key hotel. Three are walkable in La Punta; the other three need a car.

Chicama

La Punta◆Casual dinner◆Peruvian◆$$

The best Peruvian food in Puerto Escondido, from a team with branches in Mexico City, Madrid and Costa Rica. Ceviche, tiradito, tataki, octopus and lomo saltado, about 200 to 600 pesos a person, and everything is good enough that you will want the whole menu.

No reservations. The line builds from seven, so come before it or after half past nine, and bring a group so you can share everything.

Book ahead and drive in before dark. The last stretch is dirt road, and you do not want to meet it at night for the first time.

Kakurega Omakase

Punta Pájaros◆Fine dining◆Japanese◆$$$$

An eight-course omakase built on the day's catch at a small palapa counter twenty-seven kilometres west of town. About 180 dollars with drink pairing, no à la carte, and the dinner nobody expects to find on this coast.

Reservation and prepayment only, closed Tuesdays. Three dinner seatings from four in the afternoon, and the road ends in dirt.

A natural wine restaurant on the terrace of Casa TO, a concrete-temple hotel whose pool was inspired by a sixth-century cistern in Istanbul, and in the Michelin Guide Mexico selection. Dinner is à la carte or a four or seven-course tasting, from about 1,000 pesos a person.

No dinner on Wednesdays. You do not need to be a hotel guest, and it books on OpenTable.

For the easy dinner

ENNA (Ennea Hotel)

La Punta Zicatela◆Casual dinner◆Mexican◆$$$

The restaurant of the nine-room Ennea hotel in La Punta, with a menu by Rodolfo Castellanos of Origen, the first winner of Top Chef Mexico. Red snapper, a comfort-food soup plated like a painting, and dinner under fifty dollars a person.

Walk in, no hotel stay needed. It is the one on this list you can decide on at seven and still eat well at eight.

How I picked

Why six, and not forty

Puerto Escondido has grown faster than its restaurants have been written about. These six are the dinners I ate and filmed that are worth planning an evening around, from a tasting menu in Rinconada to an omakase counter up the coast.

Breakfast and coffee have their own guide, so this one is only about dinner.

Questions

Before you go out

What is the best restaurant in Puerto Escondido?+

Almoraduz, the Michelin Guide Oaxacan restaurant on the Rinconada strip, with a tasting menu under a hundred dollars. For a once-in-a-trip dinner, La Bóveda at Casona Sforza or the Kakurega omakase.

Which restaurants in Puerto Escondido are in the Michelin Guide?+

Two on this list: Almoraduz in Rinconada and Glou Glou at Casa TO in Brisas de Zicatela, both in the Michelin Guide Mexico 2026 selection. Casona Sforza holds One Michelin Key, the Guide's award for hotels, and its restaurant La Bóveda sits inside that hotel. None holds a star.

Do I need a car?+

For Chicama, ENNA and Glou Glou, no: they are walkable in La Punta. Almoraduz is a short ride to Rinconada. Casona Sforza and Kakurega need a car or a booked taxi, and both end on a dirt road, so drive them in daylight the first time.

Is Kakurega worth 180 dollars?+

If you like omakase, yes. It is eight courses built on that day's catch at a small counter, with pairing included in that price. It is prepaid and reservation only, so decide before you go.

Which restaurant has no reservations?+

Chicama, walk in only, and the line builds from about seven. ENNA also works without booking. Almoraduz, Casona Sforza, Kakurega and Glou Glou all need a reservation.

Where should I have breakfast or coffee in Puerto Escondido?+

That is a separate guide: Pez Gallo for breakfast on the beach, Monte Alpán for sourdough, Notto by Guiño for coffee and a laptop, and Glou Glou for breakfast and matcha.
