What Biggie’s is
Biggie’s is a small New York style bistro at Roma 35 in Colonia Juárez, Mexico City. It opened in mid-2026 and takes its name from The Notorious B.I.G., the Brooklyn rapper who died in 1997. The idea is not a theme park: the owners eat their way through New York every year and wanted a room in Mexico City that served the dishes they bring home in their heads, in the portions New York serves them, at Mexico City prices.
The dining room seats only a handful of tables, packed close together under large melting candles, with contemporary art, New York photographs and rapper portraits on the walls and hip hop on the sound system. A terrace with one long shared bar table takes the overflow and the walk-ins. Time Out Mexico reviewed it in June 2026 and gave it four stars out of five.
Who is behind it
Chef Ricardo Garrido is a cook and sommelier who has opened several restaurants in Mexico City, including Garri’s Hot Chicken, the Nashville style fried chicken diner on Querétaro street in Roma Norte that he co-founded and that has since closed. His partner Kenya Martin is a human rights lawyer who introduced him to hip hop and now works as the restaurant’s creative director, responsible for the look of the place. The couple got engaged in New York, which explains the name and most of the decor. The cocktail list was written by mixologist Said Buenrostro, with each drink named after one of the couple’s favourite songs, and the illustrations are by the artist Autinauta.
Awards and press
- Time Out Mexico, June 2026: four stars out of five in a review by food and drink editor Elisa Herrera.
- Food and Pleasure, July 2026: opening feature on the menu and the concept.
- The Happening, September 2026: included in a round-up of trendy Mexico City restaurants worth a return visit.
How the menu works
The menu is a single a la carte list of American bistro dishes, most of them shareable. There is no tasting menu and no set lunch; the restaurant only opens from 15:00, so the first hours run as a late lunch and the evening as dinner and drinks.
Dishes the restaurant and reviewers have singled out:
- The Notorious B.I.G. burger: a wagyu-cross patty with caramelized onion, house pickles and a peppered comeback sauce, with fries.
- Wings: buffalo or Korean style with gochujang.
- Butter shrimp: shrimp in a charred chile butter.
- Warm Caesar: a Caesar salad served warm with asparagus, potatoes and feta.
- Steak au poivre with fries.
- Tuna toast with chintextle, the Oaxacan chile paste, and confit garlic.
- Notorious DOGs: hot dogs, added to the menu after opening.
- Desserts: New York cheesecake and a banana split with Joe Gelato ice cream, caramelized banana and whipped cream.
Drinks include a short wine list, craft beers from Punto Medio and Said Buenrostro’s cocktails, among them The Notorious GIN (gin, banana, Chartreuse), Méxtasis (mezcal, lime, Mixta, syrup) and a clamato with mezcal and house sauces.
What I ate
When I filmed in September 2026 I ordered three plates: the burger in pepper sauce with fries, a prosciutto and arugula salad, and a generous side of small baked potatoes with asparagus and feta. The burger was juicy and the portions were American sized. Still water was refilled for free throughout the meal and the service was excellent. The three plates came to about 760 MXN with water and service, roughly 45 USD at the time.
What it costs
Prices observed in September 2026:
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Burger with fries, salad and a side, per person, with water and service | About 760 MXN, about 45 USD |
| Cocktails, wine and beer | Charged separately |
Time Out Mexico places Biggie’s in its moderate price band. Compared with the New York bistros it copies, a full dinner here costs roughly half. Prices in Colonia Juárez move quickly, so check the menu on the day.
How to book
Biggie’s is small and has been hard to get into since it opened.
- Reservations: through the Reservas highlight on Instagram, @biggies.cdmx.
- Walk-ins: the terrace has a large shared bar table that is kept for people without a booking. Arrive close to opening at 15:00 or before 19:00 for the best chance.
- Hours: Wednesday and Thursday 15:00 to 22:00, Friday and Saturday 15:00 to midnight, Sunday 15:00 to 20:00. Closed Monday and Tuesday.
Getting there
- Address: Roma 35, Colonia Juárez, Cuauhtémoc, 06600, Mexico City. Some listings give the unit as 35-B.
- Metrobús: Hamburgo station on Line 1 (Insurgentes) is about two minutes on foot.
- Metro: Insurgentes on Line 1 is about seven minutes on foot, Sevilla about ten.
- On foot: about ten minutes from the Ángel de la Independencia on Reforma, and about fifteen from the Roma Norte side of Álvaro Obregón.
- Parking: street parking is scarce in the evening. Taxi or app car is the practical option.
Before you go
- Book or come early. The inside tables go first; the terrace bar table is the walk-in option.
- Expect noise. Hip hop plays all evening and the tables are close together. It is a fun room, not a quiet one.
- Portions are big. Three plates for two people is a full meal; order the burger and a side and add a second plate only if you are hungry.
- Dress as you like. The room looks upscale, with tablecloths, but the crowd is casual.
- Cards accepted. Service was added to my bill, so check before tipping twice.
- Pair it with the neighbourhood. Colonia Juárez has had a run of 2026 openings. For contemporary Mexican a few blocks away, see Atte.; for a big Italian room, see La Bellezza.
- Check the hours before you go. The hours on this page come from the venue’s public listings, which drift, so confirm on Google Maps or the venue’s own channels before a special trip.
