What Mackie’s Bagels and Deli is

Mackie’s Bagels and Deli is a small bagel bakery and sandwich counter at Colima 318 in Roma Norte, Mexico City. It opened in the summer of 2026 and was picked up by Mexican food press in late August and early September of that year as one of the new openings of the season. The format is a New York deli transplanted to a leafy Roma street: bagels made in house each morning, a counter of fillings, a short coffee list and a planted terrace out front.

The shop describes itself simply as bagels plus deli, and its stated rule is that when the day’s bagels run out, they are gone. That sets the rhythm of the place: it is a morning and lunchtime spot rather than an all-day cafe.

Mackie’s joins a small but growing group of bagel bakeries in the Roma, alongside Migo Bagels on Jalapa and Cachies Bagels, which between them have made hand-rolled bagels a regular breakfast option in the neighbourhood.

Who is behind it

Little has been published about the owners. A TikTok clip from the opening period describes Mackie’s as the new project of a founder named Mariel, and the name Mackie appears to be a personal nickname rather than a brand, but I could not confirm either from a printed source. The shop’s own channels do not name a chef or baker. What the press has reported is the product: bagels with a crisp exterior and a soft crumb, and a smell of fresh bread that carries down Colima in the morning.

How the menu works

Everything is ordered at the counter and assembled in front of you. There are two routes.

  • Ready-made combinations: a printed list of savoury and sweet bagels. Reviewers in 2026 singled out the breakfast bagel, the pastrami, the classic smoked salmon with cream cheese, the egg and bacon, and the cinnamon bagel as a dessert.
  • Build your own: choose the bagel, then a protein, then toppings from the ingredients laid out at the counter. Sweet builds, with fruit and spreads, are possible as well as savoury ones.
  • Drinks: drip and espresso coffee, iced coffee and iced matcha. The iced drinks are poured into clear branded cans and sealed on the spot with a canning machine, so they travel like a soft drink. Bottled water is sold too.
  • Deli counter: cured meats and cheeses used in the bagels, in the style of a New York deli, with the emphasis on the sandwiches rather than retail.

What I ate

When I filmed in September 2026 we ordered two bagels from the list, one savoury and one sweet, plus an iced coffee that came sealed in a can. Everything at the counter looked fresh and was laid out in view, which made the build-your-own option easy to judge before ordering. The bagels are dense in the New York way rather than the softer bread-roll style common in Mexico City. My note from the visit was that the style and the prices both match New York.

What it costs

Mackie’s does not publish its prices online. The figures below are from my visit and from Mexican reviews of the opening.

ItemPrice
Two filled bagels, one coffee and one water, for two peopleAbout 40 USD, roughly 730 MXN (September 2026)
Loyalty card threshold, one stamp per purchase200 MXN, about 11 USD

That works out to about 20 USD per person for a bagel and a drink, which is high for a counter breakfast in the Roma, where a full plate with coffee at a neighbourhood cafe runs 200 to 300 MXN. El Taims, which reviewed Mackie’s in August 2026, gave it the highest mark on its price scale. Prices move, so check the board when you order. Cards are accepted.

Do you need a reservation

No. Mackie’s is counter service with no bookings. Go early on weekends: the shop bakes a fixed number of bagels each morning and closes the list when they are gone, and by mid-afternoon the choice narrows. Weekday mornings around opening are the quietest.

Getting there

  • Address: Colima 318, Roma Norte, Cuauhtémoc, 06700 Mexico City.
  • Neighbourhood: the western end of Colima, one of the Roma’s long east to west streets, on a residential block that is calmer than the stretch around Orizaba.
  • Metro: Sevilla on Line 1 is about a 10 minute walk to the north. Chilpancingo on Line 9 is 12 to 15 minutes to the south-west.
  • Metrobús: the Sonora stop on Line 1, on Avenida Insurgentes, is about 10 minutes on foot.
  • On foot: about 8 minutes from Parque España and about 12 minutes from Plaza Río de Janeiro.
  • Parking: street parking only, with meters on the surrounding blocks. A bike or a ride-share is easier.

Before you go

  • Go in the morning. The bagels are baked once, and the shop’s own line is that when they run out, they run out.
  • Terrace first. Most of the seating is outdoors under plants; inside there are only a few stools. In the rainy months bring a plan B for the afternoon showers.
  • Order takeaway if the terrace is full. The canned iced drinks are made for carrying out, and Parque España is a short walk away.
  • Expect New York prices. Budget around 20 USD per person and you will not be surprised.
  • Kids are fine. Counter service, quick turnaround, sweet bagels on the list.
  • Loyalty card. Ask for the stamp card if you live nearby; purchases over 200 MXN earn a stamp.
  • Pair it with coffee nearby. For a second coffee in a very different setting, Numen Design, the pencil workshop with a specialty coffee bar, is a few blocks away on Jalapa.
  • Check the hours before you go. The hours on this page come from the venue’s public listings, which drift, so confirm on Google Maps or the venue’s own channels before a special trip.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Mackie's Bagels and Deli?+

Mackie's Bagels and Deli is at Colima 318, Roma Norte, Cuauhtémoc, 06700 Mexico City. Colima is one of the main east to west streets of the Roma, and number 318 sits at its quieter western end, a few minutes on foot from Avenida Álvaro Obregón and Parque España.

What are Mackie's opening hours?+

Mackie's lists weekday hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on its Instagram account, @mackiesbagels. Weekend hours were not published clearly when I checked, and the shop states that when the day's bagels run out they are gone, so a morning visit is the safe choice. Confirm on Instagram before a Sunday trip.

How much does a bagel at Mackie's cost?+

When I filmed in September 2026, two filled bagels, one coffee and a bottle of water came to about 40 USD, roughly 730 MXN, which works out at about 20 USD per person. Mexican reviewers describe the prices as high for a bagel shop and comparable to New York. Prices move, and a loyalty card gives a stamp for each purchase over 200 MXN.

Can I build my own bagel at Mackie's?+

Yes. Mackie's works in two ways: you can choose one of the ready-made combinations, sweet or savoury, or build your own by picking the bagel, the protein and the toppings from the ingredients laid out at the counter. Both routes use the same house-made bagels.

What is the canned coffee at Mackie's?+

Iced coffee and iced matcha at Mackie's are poured into clear cans printed with the shop's branding and sealed with a canning machine at the counter, so you carry them out like a soda. It is a takeaway format; you can also drink in on the terrace.

Does Mackie's have seating?+

Yes. Mackie's has a large planted terrace at the front, on a calm stretch of Colima, plus a few seats inside near the counter. The terrace is the main dining space, so it is a fair-weather spot; in the rainy season, June to September, the afternoon showers can push everyone inside.

What should I order at Mackie's?+

Mexican food press that covered the opening in August and September 2026 recommends the breakfast bagel, the pastrami bagel for something more filling, the classic smoked salmon bagel, the egg and bacon, and the cinnamon bagel as a sweet finish. If you want to compare it with the city's other New York style bagel shops, Migo Bagels and Cachies Bagels are both in the Roma.

Is Mackie's good for a laptop morning?+

It can work on a weekday. The terrace is quiet, the shop opens at 8:00 am and closes mid-afternoon, and orders are taken at the counter, so nobody hurries you. It is not set up as a coworking cafe, though, and inside seating is limited, so treat it as a breakfast stop rather than an office.
